Senator Cliff Pirtle Criticizes Governor’s Failed Gating Criteria
Conservative Chaves County again singled out, Remains lone county not at Turquoise Level
SANTA FE – Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that 32 of the state’s 33 counties have now entered the least restrictive Turquoise level of reopening, with Chaves County remaining at the Green level. Chaves County had previously been the only county in the state still in the Yellow category despite outperforming many of other counties in all the stated gating criteria.
Following the release of the updated map, Senator Cliff Pirtle (District 32-Chaves, Eddy, and Otero) released the following statement:
“The people of Chaves County respect community, freedom, and liberty. Despite continually outperforming other counties in key COVID-19 metrics, our county remains singled out as the most restricted in the state. This underscores what many of us have known for months — there is no rhyme, reason, and definitely no science behind the continued lockdown. The only infraction I can see that would warrant our ongoing ‘time out’ would be that most of our people vote for leaders who have a spine and are willing to stand up to this Governor’s all out power grab.”
